Befriending Service
It only takes an hour to change a life. Our befrienders visit their clients once a week for a cup of tea, a chat and to provide essential contact with the outside world. The positive impact of a friendly face on the lives of isolated older people is immeasurable.
To volunteer as a befriender or refer someone to the service please call 01326 313 620 or email falmouthbefriending@ageukcornwall.org.uk
Our Mission
We carefully match our volunteer befrienders with our elderly clients to provide social interaction and friendship to anyone elderly who is isolated or lonely, for about an hour each week. We aim particularly to change the lives of the ‘marginalised elderly’ – those who live alone with little or no support and few, if any, friends.
Befriending Framework
We are currently in contact with well over a hundred local elderly people, but the need for our services is always increasing as our population ages.
All volunteers are DBS and background checked and have the opportunity to attend regular safeguarding training sessions. We complement the statutory services (health, social care etc) and take some of the pressure off them, though we are not a care organisation or a replacement service.
Following the recent launch of our Lottery Community Funded outreach project, we are now able to reach people in outlying villages within a 9 mile radius of Falmouth and Penryn.
